This past week hasn’t been easy, we received news of 3 people who sadly passed away. On Monday, our church and our family lost an incredible and God chosen man. Brother Jacob was and will forever be remembered as a great man of prayer. He had a special gift only several had, the power of prayer. Sometimes it’s difficult to see God’s plan in the middle of our pain and suffering. A couple of minutes before he died, we were praying for him. After I heard the news, I shut the door and started sobbing, Sobbing to the point where I couldn’t breath and was choking on my tears. It just hit me hard, that all of a sudden he had passed away. He was always the first one to arrive at church and the last one to leave. He was our Pastor’s right hand man. Every time you entered through the church doors, you were greeted with his warm smile. He will truly be missed, but he did leave footsteps that we should follow. My mom’s uncle died about 2 days after. Even though I didn’t know much about him, it still hit me. The last passing belonged to my mom’s old family friend. She told us that he owned a store near her childhood house. She said that he would always greet them with some funny nicknames. I actually got to hear him saying them as he passed their house a couple of times.
Even after these devastating news, there is good news. 2 of them became citizens of heaven. I'm happy that they received the gift of eternal life. I feel sorry for the one who didn’t receive God as his savior. Maybe knowing God could’ve helped him battle COVID with peace and with understanding. Even though we can’t physically talk to others, we can use the Internet as a source to spread God’s word.
Matthew 28:19-20 says, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the end of the age." The physical part of this verse( go and make disciples) is currently delayed. So how do we spread God’s word without physically meeting?
Social media has definitely shaped our society into what is seen today. Social media as well as the Internet, are used for communicating, for entertainment, to advertise, and in some cases it can be used to harm others. Having said this, how can we use it for good?
1. Post a biblical verse.
I have done this a couple of times using WhatsApp. Posting a biblical verse can help someone who needs encouragement.
2. Post a Christian song.
Whether it's a worship song or Christian rap, a song can definitely change a person’s mood.
3. Post an inspiring quote.
Some people just need to read something that can help them think positive or motivate them into changing their way of life.
4. Post a sermon/preaching.
It’s good to share different sermons, since not all pastors have the same perspectives on the same topic. This can help those who are going through tough times.
5. Start a blog.
I started this blog as a way to reach the lives of those I can’t physically reach.
6. Start a virtual gathering.
This can definitely help those who feel lonely and sad. In doing this, you can also invite those who do not believe, in order to reach them.
7. Start a YouTube channel.
Here your videos can be a way to motivate, interact, and inspire those watching.
8. Start praying online.
My mom has done some Facebook lives in which she prays for our nation, the pandemic, as well as other topics.
Overall I believe that we should start to evangelize online, since many of the people surrounding us don’t believe. This is the time that we need to start preaching in the way we know best. Create a post, start praying live, find something that makes you feel productive. God Bless!
Don’t forget to smile,
Grace.
