2 weeks ago, Tropical storm Hanna (also a category 1 hurricane) hit our community hard. We received many alarming warnings of Flooding that Saturday, we even received warnings for potential Tornado. We actually got half a bucket of water inside our house! (Luckily nothing was badly damaged) Sunday morning after virtual church, we decided to take a look at our surrounding streets. Many of those streets had to be blocked, since the water level was crazy high. If we had it bad, imagine how bad Mexico had it. Our church is in Reynosa, so when we heard that many people lost everything, we felt like helping. 1 Peter 4:8 says, “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.” We should love others, just how God loves us.
We originally wanted to later sell the clothes that no longer fit, but God’s plans are perfect, that we decided to give now instead of sell later. My parents crossed the border in order to deliver bags of clothes, as well as bags of shoes and toys. Philippians 2:4 says, “ Look not every man to his own things, but every man also to the things of others.” We felt that we wanted to bless others, not for us, but because God tells us to do this.
Types of HELP :
1. Donate:
You could donate clothes, shoes, toys. Donate canned food or packs of water. Donating hygiene products and necessities can also be a blessing to those in need. You can even donate money, any amount can make a difference in someone’s life. .
2. Pray:
Although you might not think this helps, let me tell you, IT DOES! Praying can be a powerful weapon that can be used for miracles. (https://hisinsideandout.wixsite.com/mysite-1/post/the-power-of-prayer-en). You could pray for their protection, and even if you don’t have anything to give, you can pray that someone else provides for them.
3. Volunteer:
I know that things right now aren’t that safe (Health-wise), but you could take the precautions and still be able to help those in need. Help them fix their home, help them pick up their groceries, any kind of volunteering helps.
When the water hit, there were those who helped. My cousins from Reynosa used a small boat to help those stuck on their roofs and took them somewhere safe. They also used their food as a way to bless those around them.
Lastly, I would like to say this, “Treat others the way you want to be treated,” this is not only a biblical verse, but also a moral saying. The Golden rule should always be used, but it should be applied more now-a-days. God bless and stay safe.
Don’t forget to smile,
Grace.
